Driven by Doing.
Each day at the UofM brings new opportunities to create, experience, develop, design, write, launch and otherwise DO something meaningful. Here, "What are you doing?" is more than a casual greeting. It's a question that taps directly into the heart and soul of every student, researcher, staff and faculty member.
What happens when you take students with diverse talents and backgrounds and put them together with internationally known faculty? Something pretty amazing comes together. It's what you find at the University of Memphis. Here, we're recognized the nation over for our academic and research programs. But what matters most to our students are the more than 254 areas of study to explore. Students come here from all over the world to receive bachelor's, master's, professional and doctoral degrees. They come here to do, to create, to learn, to grow. To improve the world. That's what Memphis does.
Our beautiful campus is home to the FedEx Institute of Technology , where world renowned researchers solve complex problems affecting society, and the Kemmons Wilson School of Hospitality and Resort Management , created by the late founder of Holiday Inns. Pre-professional training is available for students planning to enter dentistry, medicine, optometry, pharmacy, physical therapy or veterinary medicine. The University proudly offers Air Force, Army and Navy ROTC programs.
Making our students' lives easier is important, so we offer convenient high caliber degree programs entirely online through our Regents Online Degree Program , including the Bachelor of Professional Studies in information technology or organizational leadership and the Bachelor of Interdisciplinary Studies in general studies, liberal studies or university studies.
We are home to the largest honors program in the state of Tennessee. Top academic performers with big ambitions find a rich, diverse experience through our Helen Hardin Honors Program . We combine the best of a small liberal arts school with the wide-ranging opportunities of a large, nationally recognized research university. While all of the 1,300 honors students excel academically, they also are part of a dynamic and diverse student body of more than 20,000 students. The program has produced Goldwater Scholars, Truman Scholars and Fulbright Scholars. Many departments within specific academic programs offer their own honors programs, so there are many ways for students to graduate with honors. The UofM also has a well thought of Emerging Leaders Program where students get real world experience to become tomorrow's leaders.
The University of Memphis has more than 100 years of experience teaching talented men and women from all over the world. Committed to a high level of educational accomplishment, the University has proven its success by developing people, who once were only dreamers, to become thinkers capable of doing amazing things. The University of Memphis pledges this pathway as both our promise and our legacy for students with great aspirations, like you.
It's loud and it's electric, really, what happens around town in support of the Memphis Tigers. To say that people are wild about our Tigers is a total understatement. Memphis loves the UofM and the UofM loves Memphis. We got married a long time ago. Memphis is a pick-yourself-up-by-the-bootstraps kind of town, where people dare to be original. The UofM is a driven by doing kind of university where "stick-to-it-iveness" is a given. We don't stop. We keep at it. Push. Push harder. We are no strangers to March Madness or conference championships. Being in this city of doers, means we're the University that also knows how to do. We Tiger claw our way to the top.
And with 400 student-athletes competing in 19 different intercollegiate sports, there's a lot of room for doing. The UofM is a charter member of the American Athletic Conference and our athletic programs compete at the highest level as an NCAA Division I institution. It's the south, so athletics are big. But this is also Memphis, so athletics bring us together to be proud, eat some barbeque and have some good times. Then repeat often.
The University of Memphis will be recognized as one of America's great metropolitan research universities, noted for its comprehensive, innovative academic programs and for capitalizing on its urban setting and region to address the challenges of our global society.
The Office for the Vice President for Research supports University of Memphis faculty's scholarship of discovery and innovation across our campuses. We work to promote research and creative activities by focusing on interdisciplinary scholarship, facilitating partnerships from local to international, and enabling our faculty to move the products of their work from the laboratory, classroom, field and studio to the community. We accomplish these goals by strategically investing our personnel and resources in efficient and effective infrastructure, policies and administration.
